Rare Books Curator
The Rare Books Department of the J. Willard Marriott Library's Special Collections Division is seeking a motivated candidate to work as Curator of its dynamic collection of antiquarian volumes, historical objects, facsimiles, and artist's books. The successful candidate will contribute to the Department's educational and outreach activities, including teaching classes and overseeing the writing and installation of online and physical exhibitions. The Curator will also take a leading role in assisting scholars in their research of collection resources, as well as training colleagues and library patrons in the use and handling of historical printed material. In addition to managing these projects, the successful applicant will assist in the development and execution of the policies, procedures, and daily operations of the Rare Books Department. The selected candidate will have opportunities to serve on Library committees, to present at conferences, and to train and supervise part-time employees.
Digital Matters Program Assistant
Digital Matters at the University of Utah seeks a candidate to assist in the daily operations of building a digital humanities and digital scholarship program and lab, at the intersection of technology and the humanities. The successful candidate will coordinate with the administrative staff to organize, support, and facilitate programming, events, lectures, workshops; conduct outreach and publicity online and in person; document policy and procedures; track and organize scheduling; and staff the reception area.
This is a term-limited position with an anticipated start date in January 2019. The successful applicant will work 20 hours per week for a period not to exceed three years (ending approximately December 2021). The exact end date date will depend on several factors including the exact starting date, the number of hours worked each week, and the continued availability of project funding.
Moving Image and Sound Digital Archivist
The Moving Image and Sound Archive is seeking a motivated candidate to take charge of its ever-growing collection of digital moving and sound material. The successful candidate will plan and oversee digital projects within the Moving Image and Sound Archive, including coordinating the digitization of analog materials for preservation and access, organizing and evaluating born digital and legacy digitized materials, creating and monitoring technical and descriptive metadata, and working with colleagues across library departments to ensure that digital moving image and sound files are preserved and accessible to the public. In addition to managing these projects, the successful candidate will influence and assist in the execution of the policies, procedures and day-to-day operations of the AV Archive, including collection management, reference and research for library patrons, and collection exhibition and outreach. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to serve on cross-departmental committees, present at conferences, and supervise and train part-time employees.

Knowledge Commons Counter Staff
Serve students, staff, and faculty in the Knowledge Commons, the Marriott Library's central service point for technology and reference assistance. Work with a team of students and library staff to answer questions in a variety of areas including campus and library services, research, computer software, printing, mobile device configuration, classroom support, and equipment checkout.
We are looking for energetic individuals who enjoy a balance of working together on projects and individually on assigned tasks in the areas of facilities management and maintenance. The Marriott Library is more than 500,000 square feet and sees more than 1.6 million visitors per year.
Book Arts Studio Assistant
The Book Arts Studio Assistant's primary responsibilities will be to provide support for the letterpress lab and the composing room, and to assist with studio up-keep and general maintenance. This assistant will also work on a broad range of tasks—some hands-on (materials preparation, studio monitoring, or exhibition installation) and some desk/computer-based (answering program-related email and phone calls, and data entry). Additional duties include: the use of specialized equipment for the preparation of materials for workshops and outreach programs; assisting with projects for the Library, Book Arts Program, and Red Butte Press; assisting visiting artists; helping with communications and publicity; and contributing to exhibitions installation. The ideal candidate enjoys letterpress printing and handiwork, is willing to take on repetitive and meticulous tasks, possesses strong communication skills, values working with a diverse group of people, and is interested in learning new skills. Job emphasis will vary based on the skills and interests of the person hired, special project timelines, and programmatic need.
Digital Collections Pre-Processor

Our small team is responsible for the digital preservation of born-digital and digitized records from all over Utah. We preserve thousands of files per week. As Digital Collections Pre-Processor, you will be able to polish skills like paying attention to details, being an effective member of a team, and developing a self-directed work ethic. You will gain, or build on, experience with Excel spreadsheets as you prepare files and their metadata for ingest into the digital archive. As you work with large batches of files in various formats, you will prepare metadata on spreadsheets and have the chance to work with simple utilities such as bulk renaming tools as you help us create order out of digital chaos.
