The Simple Video Studio is offline while we make upgrades and move to a new location!
We expect it to be available for usability testing in early Fall 2026 and a relaunch after Fall Break.
The Simple Video Studio is a self-scheduled, video recording space that requires no prior media production experience.
- Located in ProtoSpace on Level 1, room 1705E.
- Available only to University of Utah students, staff, and faculty with a valid uNID.

Hours:
- Available to all users whenever ProtoSpace is open.
- Available to certified users after hours.

Equipped with:
- HD video camera on a motorized lift.
- Shotgun (omni-directional) microphone.
- Three-point studio lights.
- Gray, white, black, and green backdrops.
- Presentation/teleprompter monitor.
- Export to your University of Utah-affiliated cloud storage (UBox and GCloud) drive.
- Simple Video Studio must be reserved to use. Reservations are limited to one hour per day.
Reserve Simple Video Studio
Possible video projects include:

- Online instruction / flipped classroom videos.
- Recruitment, training, or conference presentations.
- ePortfolio materials.
- Practicing public speaking skills.
- Audition reels.
- Oral history interviews.
- Video podcasts.
Basic Instructions
- Close the door for better sound containment.
- Choose your color background.
- Adjust the height of the video camera using the mechanical lift controls on the front (east) wall.
- On touch screen, press "Turn On Lights" button for the studio lighting. Then, turn off the overhead room lights using the wall switch.
- On the touch screen, press the “Start Recording” button.
- Give your presentation.
- On the touch screen, press the “Stop Recording” button.
- Wait for the .mp4 file to write to your Flash Drive.
- Remove Flash Drive.
- Turn on room lights. Then use the touch screen to turn off the studio lights.
- Leave the room door open.
