Biography adapted from Artists of Utah.

This imaginative Salt Lake City artist and teacher (Rowland Hall, St. Marks) works in various techniques. For some years, he was at his Artspace studio, sharing that workplace and others with his wife, fellow artist Louise Fischman. Geary trained at both the University of Washington (B.A.) and the University of Utah (M.F.A.). He has exhibited his work in California and Utah and was represented in a Group Videotape Exhibition in Amsterdam in 1979. Multi-media and multi-interests (in murals, "copy machine art," and "billboard art,") are only parts of the rather rich fabric of Geary's artistic pursuits to date. He is known not only for his "artist-in-residence" at schools all over the state (often through the Arts in Education Program of the Utah Arts Council) but also for his fine creative studio work as well (in oils, acrylics, and watercolors, as well as assemblage-installation techniques). Such work is sometimes nonobjective, formal, painterly, surrealistic, or landscape in nature. Geary's life objectives are clearly those of both the master teacher and artist.
