Computer Science Digital Library Collections

The pioneering work in computer graphics, computer architecture, and digital audio, plus being the fourth node on the ARPAnet (the predecessor of today's Internet) has created not only new research ideas, but also new research for students and faculty. Technical reports, manuscripts and photographs at the J. Willard Marriott Library document the early history of the University of Utah Computer Science Department. The links below offer an overview of the resources available at the Marriott Library.

School of Computing Technical Reports

  • 1996-1998 (Marriott Library Collection)

Primary Areas of Research

  • Animation

  • Architecture & VLSI - Explores many aspects of modern and future computing systems. The current research focuses on memory systems, hardware ray-tracing, and on/off-chip interconnects.

  • Computer systems - Address problems in creating dependable embedded software, particularly for highly constrained platforms.

  • Data, databases, information management - Focuses on research in query processing on both streaming and relational database systems, management and indexing of large databases, spatio-temporal database applications, security issues in the data management field, query processing in probabilistic data, and distributed DBMS.

  • Formal methods and verification - Specializing on program analysis and synthesis methods, including static analysis and applications to security and high-performance computing (HPC).

  • Graphics - Engages in both fundamental and applied research in developing methods for representing, specifying, manipulating, and visualizing geometric models

  • Human computer interaction - Uses a collaborative effort with faculty in Psychology, Mechanical Engineering, Entertainment Arts and Engineering to understand and improve user experience with emerging technology.

  • Image analysis

  • Natural language processing

  • Robotics

  • Scientific computing

  • Security and privacy

  • Visualizations
