Textbooks in the Library
The library has multiple options available to help faculty and students obtain course materials.
Check Usearch to see if a version of the textbook or course material is currently available from the library. Place it on Reserve.
Use Suggest a Purchase to request items for our collection. By specifying that the item you are requesting is for a class in the description, you can let us know to be sure and order the materials in a way that maximizes access once they arrive. We are usually able to place physical items on Reserve to ensure that they are not checked out for too long by any one patron, and for electronic items we are usually able to negotiate multiple-user access that lets many patrons (like a class full of students) simultaneously access the same book.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) provides electronic access to book chapters and journal articles directly to patrons. Although ILL does not obtain physical copies of textbooks or course-required materials, supplementary materials such as books, movies, and articles can be requested for faculty and student research. There is no charge for Marriott Library Interlibrary Loan services.
The library is also interested in finding ways of helping assist professors in exploring open access materials and other resources that may help offset the need for textbooks in courses – we have a wide range of subject specialists that can answer questions on many aspects of open course materials within their respective specializations.
